About Ataraxia

“Ataraxia” is an Aristotelian term meaning, roughly, “to look upon all things with a mind at peace”.

I think ataraxia is the result of being all that you can be.

Contentment. Happiness.

Isn’t that what everyone wants?

I chose Ataraxia as my pen-name a half-century ago because it represented a sort of “Holy Grail” which set the course of my life. I am guided by this bit of sage wisdom:

This, above all,
To thine own self be true.
Then, as the day follows the night,
One cannot be false to any man.
(Hamlet)

I realized that being true to myself as a Deep Rubberist–being all the Rubberist that I can be–is, above all, my primary path to self-actualization… and ataraxia.

The unexpected thing was that, as I have aged and the fires in my groin have subsided, the intensity of my fetish did not abate. Instead, it became deeply internalized as a non-theistic spiritual quest.

I began to see my fetish as a lifelong “practice“.

I’m well into the Winter of my life now. Perhaps the most important thing I have learned along the way is that living the (Rubber) Path, not the Goal that matters. Yes, you need the goal because that is your navigation beacon. But, it is the striving toward that goal that is the real meat of life and, perhaps, our primary source of happiness. That is the road to ataraxia.
