In my upcoming novel “Becoming Rubber”, protagonist Carlee Koster finds herself on a spiritual Quest in which she is delightfully compelled to “go so far into my fetish that I might even come out the other side.”
Well, thank you, Carlee. That sort of explains the whole “Deep Rubberist” enchilada.
A “Deep” Rubberist is a sort of “secular nunk” (nun + monk, non-gender specific) focused on a path of deep inner exploration and personal transcendence through rubber fetish which often ranges beyond sexuality and well into the realm of non-theistic spirituality. The fetish is the primary aspect of their personality. It may evolve into a lifestyle.
Ask a Rubberist if he dreams or has urges of being entirely enclosed in rubber all of the time. This is the archetype of a Deep Rubberist and is a life-long compulsion, something like that which draws a moth to the light. Think of it as a Zen-like attitude in which rubber fetish is a primary life-focus. (And, yes, they know that 24/7 is not possible in the real world. Hey, it’s a dream.)
